Bo Yoon is a writer/director that explores identity, place, and memory. She was born in Korea, raised in California, and lived in Uganda. This background has given her a nomadic sensibility and style that creates intimate portrayals of the “periphery”.

Her films have played all over the world, including the Durban International Film Festival, Urbanworld Film Festival, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Asian American International Film Festival, and others.

She has a BA from Columbia University in Comparative Ethnic Studies and an MFA in Film Directing from UCLA. She has worked for Mira Nair’s Maisha Film Lab in Uganda and Ava Duvernay’s ARRAY in Los Angeles. The Sloan Foundation funded her thesis film, “Lamara” that was shot in Uganda. Currently, she is working on her debut feature film set in South Africa.
